The “Marching Rebels” is a volunteer group that is organized through the school’s community education program. The USC School District represents six small communities. Those communizes are Bricelyn, Easton, Freeborn, Kiester, Walters and Wells, Minnesota with the High School being located in Wells. This school district which was formed in 1991, has an enrollment of approximately 300 students at the high school level.
This year’s version of the Marching Rebels is comprised of over 90 students, and will be marching in 11 parades during the summer season.
Some of the parades and events the Marching Rebels have appeared at over the past years are as follows; the St. Paul Winter Carnival; the Gateway Festival, in St. Louis Missouri; the Cody Stampede, in Cody Wyoming; the Aquatennial Parade, in Minneapolis, Walt Disneyworld, in Orlando FL; and the Gator Bowl & Parade, in Jacksonville, FL., the National Independence Day Parade in Washington DC, and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago. In 2006, the group performed in San Diego, Huntington Beach, and at Disneyland. In 2008, the Rebels will be performing in Boston and New York. The group also finds time to perform the Star’s Spangled Banner at Minnesota Twins’ baseball games.
